Model Exercise B

I am not 100% sure of the exact needs of my context because I am undecided on whether to focus on team development or individual athlete development. However as the need is a gap it would be a case of finding out where the outcome of the athlete or teams performance now and what they should be able to do by the end of instruction.

To meet the needs it will cost time, resources and tools, and therefore money. In field hockey terms the coaches would have to analyze the players performance which will require time, staff and possibly video equipment. However if the problem is ignored other teams may perform better, score more goals and games maybe lost. The ultimate cost of ignoring the problem is missing out on the chance to win a National Champion. This in turn will lead to less money and resources for the next year.

Other factors that should be considered i nthe front end analysis include

PROBLEMS
- nature of descrepancy
CAUSES
- obsticals
- rewarding?
- is the skill used often
- can the athlete/team perform the skill
SOLUTION
- is there a simple solution
- which solution is best

The cost-time-quality triangle needs to be considered.

Model Exercise A

My ID model will consider the notions of Front End Analysis because in the context of improving sport performance it is vital to watch the team or athlete and find out what they are doing inefficiently. From this causes to why they are not performing efficiently can be identified and then solutions to get them performing well can be created.

After reading chapter 6 my model will look to find the root of the problem by analyzing the performer and the environment. My model will develop a systematic way of thinking and use a systems analysis approach.

Model Update

So I have been thinking a lot about my model this week and I now want to take a new route and avoid education altogether. This semester I am trying to gain as much experiences as possible in coaching field hockey. I feel I have a great opportunity to take advantage of these classes and I should use them to my benefit. My model will now look and human performance problems in the field of sport. I am going to devise a model that will look to improve the performance of individual athletes and sports teams. I have yet to find a model specifically related but I know that a modified version of ADDIE (like all other models) will work in this field.

My Model???

Well to start off with I would like to continue focusing on Physical Education as my professional context for practicing instructional development. Within this professional context I would refer to the system being served as High Schools in Scotland. As I am from Scotland and I have experience working there I will use these system for my development. The suprasystem withing which this system exists is known as the Scottish Education Executive. Two subsystems relating to my system would be the Physical Education Department and Continuing Professional Development training. Information channels within the system are teachers and the schools intranet.

Module 1

Wow so after the first class my mind was all over the place with all the techno jargon. I was lost and confused with where everything is, what we should be doing and how to do it. However since spending some time developing my PLE I have now managed to get myself organized and feel far more comfortable with the course. I have even created an account on igoogle and love that I can have everything I need on the one page. So now that the logistics are in order (at least I hope) I can now concentrate on working through the module. In module one I found it very useful to have a set of questions for the readings. There is a lot of content to get through but having specific things to look out for really helped to stay focused. Already I feel like I am starting to build on my understanding of the whole instructional process and I am now starting to think about my own instructional model.
